Mehmed I: Sultan Mehmed I was the 5th Sultan of the Ottoman Empire. He was the 4th son of Sultan Bayezid I and Devlet Hatun. He has come into Power through the Ottoman Civil War. He was in Power from 5 July 1413 to 26 May 1421.

First Life: Sultan Mehmed was born in 1389. He was the son of Bayezid I. On 20 July 1402, his father was defeated in the battle of Ankara by Timur. His brother Mustafa and his father were captured from the battlefield. And they are sent to Samarkand. Mehmed being saved by Bayezid Pasha, and took him to his hometown of Amasya. When Sultan Mehmed came to power, he appointed Bayezid Pasha as Chief Advisor.
After the battle of Ankara, Mehmed fought with his brothers. This war lasted from 1402 to 1413, is known as the Ottoman Civil War. His brothers were killed. As a result, Mehmed became the 5th Sultan of the Ottoman Empire.
Mehmed’s Reign: He took part in Albania, the Jandarid Emirate. He captured the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia from the Mamelukes. He is known as the second founder of the Ottoman Empire for his many achievements. His brother Mustafa has demanded the division of the empire. Mehmed was rejected by his brother’s proposal. And declared war against his brother. Mustafa fled to the Byzantine city.
The Byzantine Emperor had a treaty with Sultan Mehmed I. After the agreement, Mustafa was deported to Lemnos Island. Mehmed’s nephew Orhan took a stand against him. The Byzantine Emperor Manuel II wanted to use Orhan against Sultan Mehmed II. Orhan was blinded for treason. Sufi Sheikh Badruddin formed a religious and social movement in the empire. In 1416, Sheikh Badruddin started a revolt. After four years of fighting, Badruddin was able to be arrested. Badruddin was hanged in 1420.
Death: Sultan Mehmed was in power for eight years. He died at Bursa on 26 May 1421. He built a Mosque in Borsa, known as the Green Mosque. He was buried next to this Mosque.
